Orient Craft Limited, a major player in India’s garments manufacturing and exports sector, has effectively ended its ‘One Time Restructuring’, post the financial strain brought by the Covid pandemic.
Under the stewardship of its founder, chairman & MD, Sudhir Dhingra, Orient Craft is now focusing on restoring its operations. The company will carry on its tradition of excellence in garment manufacturing and export, now based in Ranchi (Jharkhand), creating a big, modern facility. Stretching 3.5 lakh square feet, outfitted with over 2500 machines operating on double shifts, efficiently doubling its capacity to over 5000 machines, the campus also has integrated services such as embroidery, washing, and printing. This setup is set to produce an annual revenue of Rs. 1200 crores.
Sudhir Dhingra stressed on the company’s pledge to ethical business practices and enduring partnerships with financial institutions and stakeholders. “With the global fashion industry set for substantial growth post-Covid, especially in sourcing from India, Orient Craft sees a hopeful future. The current Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Australia and anticipated FTAs with the UK and the European Union further bode well for business expansion”.
Despite the Indian garment exports industry’s current size being a modest US $ 16 billion out of the US $ 1.36 trillion global garment market, there’s optimism for substantial growth. With conducive regulatory support and structural shifts, India aims to double its garment exports industry size to US $ 30 billion by 2027. Orient Craft, through its new Ranchi facility, aims to seize a significant share of this burgeoning market.
The textile and garment industry contributed around 2.3 per cent to India’s GDP in 2024. The Government of India is having grand plans for the textile sector, striving to enhance exports from US $ 45 billion to US $ 100 billion. Orient Craft acknowledges the huge potential in this focus area and is investing in modern infrastructure and capable talent to support with these aspirations.
Additionally, the company is devoted to nurturing social responsibility by focusing on inclusive growth. It intends to skill and employ a considerable workforce, including differently-abled individuals and underprivileged women from local communities. Previously before the pandemic, Orient Craft had 32,000 workers around 24 facilities in five states, serving over 40 finest fashion brands globally.
