A Textile Task Force (TTF) has been established for the first time by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) in order to address a range of industry-related challenges and bring disparate textile sector sectors together on a single platform.
The TTF will include representatives from every segment of the textile industry, from fibres to garments. Additionally, it will feature industry infrastructure and machinery developers. It will include textile dealers as well as spinners, processors, weavers, knitters, owners of embroidery businesses, sellers of yarn, clothing makers, and exporters.
“The textile industry has a number of challenges, and entrepreneurs from disparate industries may not always agree on solutions,” according to SGCCI President Vijay Mevawala. “The TTF will put them on a common platform, facilitating unified representation to relevant departments and the State and Central Governments.”
“According to the Growth Hub plan of NITI Aayog, the south Gujarat economy is expected to grow to US $ 1.5 trillion by 2047. It is anticipated that the textile sector will be crucial to this expansion. The task force will concentrate on ways to quicken the industry’s growth and deal with issues where government assistance is required. Positioning Surat, dubbed India’s textile cluster, as a major international textile hub is the aim,” he continued.
Ashish Gujarati, the former president of the SGCCI, has been named chairman of the TTF, and S P Verma, a former additional textile commissioner in the Union Ministry of Textiles, has been made an advisor. The task team will convene monthly and plan two ‘Textile Conclaves’ a year, with December being the date of the first one. The TTF will concentrate on the growth of the clothing sector as well as the textile industry’s general skill development. Additionally, a citywide common facilities complex will be planned.
