Fashion and lifestyle brand GANNI has announced a new partnership with the non-profit organization Canopy to ensure that its textiles and paper packaging are free from fibres sourced from climate-critical forests.
This collaboration is part of GANNI’s broader commitment to reducing its environmental impact. Each year, over 3.4 billion trees are cut down to produce paper packaging and fabrics like viscose, contributing to deforestation and climate change. As a CanopyStyle and Pack4Good partner, GANNI aims to eliminate the use of materials from Ancient and Endangered Forests in its supply chains. The brand will also work on developing low-carbon, circular alternatives, such as textiles made from recycled fabrics and packaging created from agricultural residues.
GANNI joins over 550 other fashion brands and retailers, representing more than US $ 1 trillion in market value, in adopting CanopyStyle policies. Additionally, 444 brands worth US $ 249 billion have committed to the Pack4Good initiative.
As a B-Corp-certified company, GANNI is dedicated to minimizing its social and environmental impact, to achieve a 50 per cent reduction in absolute carbon emissions by 2027, compared to a 2021 baseline. Partnering with Canopy is a crucial step towards reaching this goal and reducing the brand’s climate impact.
“Joining the CanopyStyle and Pack4Good initiatives is a significant part of our journey to become the most responsible version of ourselves,” said Lauren Bartley, Chief Sustainability Officer at GANNI. “We are proud to work with Canopy to protect the world’s vital forests.”
Nicole Rycroft, Founder and Executive Director of Canopy, added, “GANNI’s commitment to these initiatives aligns them with the most forward-thinking players in the fashion industry. Together, we have the potential to scale low-impact, Next Gen Solutions to preserve forests and transform the environmental footprint of fashion.”
