The US Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded Fatullah Apparels, a prominent Bangladeshi clothing manufacturer and exporter, the coveted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification.
Under the direction of Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), the company achieved a score of 97 out of 110 points, indicating its dedication to sustainable practices.
The company’s successful application of high-performance strategies in a number of areas, such as location and transportation, sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation, earned it the LEED Platinum Certification.
Bangladesh has become a global pioneer in the production of environmentally friendly clothing and has the most green-rated buildings—53 Platinum, 104 Gold, 10 Silver, and 4 ungraded. There are already a number of more factories working towards LEED certification, and seven of the top ten LEED-certified factories globally are situated in Bangladesh.
Two separate two-story buildings—one for administration and the other for production—house Fatullah Apparels. In addition to using rainwater collecting devices, the plant gets its electricity from the national grid and renewable sources. Additionally, it goes above and above the requirements of basic compliance rules, offering its employees competitive pay and other benefits.
