The future is (blindingly) bright!
Flashes of electric neons flooded the menswear runways at the international fashion capitals for the season of Spring Summer 2019. A heavy dose of bright, reflective colours popped across a variety of materials such as cotton, polyester, PVC, and even gabardine.
Paired alongside earthy or neutral palettes, the trend is indicative of juxtaposing colours that are usually not worn together.
Among the top runners, neon yellow – with a lemony undertone, neon blue, and neon pink, emerged as the ones omnipresent across collections.
Injecting an overdose of happy, we have designers going all out with the neon colour palette over distinctive pieces ranging from shirts, t-shits, shorts, tailored suits, windcheaters, trousers, you name it and they got it!
Virgil Abloh presented vivid neon tank tops, sports t-shirts, holsters, and popping bright waist belts for Louis Vuitton. The King of streetwear even went ahead to feature neon trims in the form of detailed stripes and patches over garments, and on the inside as body warmers.
Comme des Garçons decided to go a little offbeat with shrunken suits paired with shocking pink tops that were cut open and styled as neck warmers, while the Versace man walked the ramp in oversized hooded sports jackets in fluorescent green.
MGSM went for orange and yellow neons over sweatshirts while Acne stuck to their cleaner silhouettes with neon tailored suiting. The most popular colours that emerged were neon yellow, neon lime, and neon pink.
