Meet the new President of Old Navy!
Gap Inc. has tapped Athleta’s current president, Nancy Green, for the newly created position of President and Chief Creative Officer of Old Navy, the company told in an announcement.
Assuming the role early August, Green will head Old Navy’s design, production, merchandising and marketing functions, with Sonia Syngal, Old Navy President and CEO, as her reporting manager.
The role is her third senior leadership assignment with the Old Navy brand, adding to the multiple roles Green has had with Gap Inc. previously.
Before assuming the position of Athleta’s President and CEO in 2013, she was Executive Vice President, Executive Advisor to the CEO, China, Gap Inc.; Executive Vice President, interim co-leader of Old Navy; and Chief Creative Officer, Executive Vice President of Old Navy, amongst others.
Before Gap Inc., Green was the Executive Vice President and General Merchandising Manager of Pottery Barn, a Williams-Sonoma-owned company which was once owned by Gap, and was the CEO of Shabby Chic, Rachel Ashwell Designs, Inc., previously.
“[Green’s] ability to drive growth is demonstrated by Athleta’s success,” said Art Peck, President and CEO of Gap Inc. “Under her leadership, the brand more than doubled sales with operating margin expansion due to a robust omni-business fueled by a clear brand vision woven throughout product and experiences. Our expectation is for Athleta to reach US $ 1 billion in sales in 2020.”
The development comes at the heels of Gap Inc.’s ‘extremely challenging’ first quarter, which led to the cutting of its 2019 profit forecast. The company is still recovering from the poor results, and analysts blamed bland product range for the same.
Temporarily, Athleta’s leadership team will report to Peck until Green’s replacement is found.
