After presenting the Gen Next show for several years at Lakmé Fashion Week, INIFD staged its first-ever exclusive endeavour “Launchpad” at the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019. The show was an opportunity for fresh designers from the Institute’s various centres in India to show their talent.
Among the presenting designers were Yash Shukla from Indore; Manali Shah selected from Koregoan Park, Pune; Ishita and Sonali from Chandigarh; Muneeba Nadeem from Kanpur; and Neelam and Ruby from the Borivali Branch in Mumbai.
Yash Shukla presented a myriad of quirky prints reminiscing old school days. The motifs including games such as Chor Raja and Sipahi games, paper boats, hop-scotch, kites, and post offices, were embossed onto the silhouettes. Staying true to the brand identity, the running stitch was used paired against belts, while checks were presented in hues of whites, beiges and blacks.
A pastel parade of easy silhouettes constituted Manali Shah’s collection, where she championed colours right from baby pinks and blues to bright yellows using the hand-blocking technique. Crop tops were paired with belts while jumpsuits and translucent skirts were draped with scarves, and the collection was overall enhanced using tassels.
Sonali and Ishita mixed innovative style aesthetics with the evergreen trend of layering. The common design element was knotting with ingenious use of minimal embellished pockets with triangles embossed on them. Pleats and dhoti-styled pants teamed with shirts made a classic style statement.
Neelam and Ruhi set the vacation mode on with an exotic swimwear line where they created ensembles by teaming swimwear with long trail jackets, making the silhouettes a blend of pleated and frilled sleeves. Most common silhouettes were high-waist pants, with halter necks and tubes in satin overcoats along with waist bound capes.
Closing the show was Muneeba Nadeem with chic silhouettes that boasted of an assortment of hijabs paired with a range of kaftans, long tunics, along with saris and blazers. Pattern details such as bell and balloon sleeves, slammed with intricate embellishments made the collection edgy and classy. Bell pants were pitted against minimalistic sheer and the ruffled sari added to the aesthetic beauty of Chadors and Abayas.
