The deception of greenwashing in fast fashion is becoming a cause of concern!
The Competition and Markets Authority – better known as CMA – has now launched probe into ‘green’ claims made by some ultrafast fashion giants like Boohoo, Asda and Asos.
CMA has said that it will be scrutinising environment-friendly and sustainability claims made by the aforementioned brands about their products that include apparel, footwear and accessories.
More on the same, the CMA said that it will be probing whether the statements and language used by the firms are too broad and vague, and whether may create the impression that clothing collections are more environmentally sustainable than they actually are.
Boohoo’s Ready for the Future and Asos’ Responsible Edit have been, reportedly, accused of making big green claims.
Also, the CMA will investigate whether the criteria used by some of these retailers to decide which products to include in these collections are lower than what customers might expect from their descriptions.
Lack of transparency has also been a factor that the retailers like Asda, Boohoo and Asos have been often accused of. The CMA has written to the three firms outlining its concerns and will use its ‘information gathering powers’ to get evidence.
The CMA has, reportedly, said that if any evidence is found, it would not hesitate to take action through the courts if necessary.
