
The theme of the 93rd edition of the world’s favourite men’s fashion and lifestyle trade fair PittiUomowill be around‘film’.
This year’s Autumn/Winter 2018 showcase will be hosted in Florence’s Fortezza da Bassa from January 9-12. The organising committee has announced a much more global timetable this season with over 541 of the 1,230 brands presenting being international and 227 of them are new entrants to the list.
The event will also play host to an athletic fashion-focused event ‘Athlovers’, which has invited five innovative brands in the segment to create performance wear outfits in collaboration with Italian wool mill Reda, to be shown at the Polveriera pavilion during the same week.
Italian heritage brand Corneliani is making its debut at the show after seven years. Gazzarini, which had shifted to the Milan Fashion Week calendar, will return to host a presentation-cum-party at the event. Paul and Shark is also making a comeback this season.
Further, Karl Lagerfeld is headlining the event this year who will unveil a new menswear project. This year’s guests of honour are Undercover’s Jun Takahashi and Takahiromiyashita The Soloist’s Takahiro Miyashita, both of them from Japan.
Several other brands are also using the fair to commemorate their anniversaries: suiting brand Brooks Brothers will celebrate its 200th year in business with their first-ever fashion show as well as an exhibition at Salonedei Cinquecento de Palazzo Vecchio on January 10; Pepe Jeans London is marking its 45th anniversary and jeans brand Denham is revelling its 10th year at the show.
Other noteworthy highlights will be the revelation of Woolmark Prize winners of both men’s and women’s category as well as watching the new talent from this year’s guest nation, Finland.
