Founder of Paiwand Studio, Ashita Singhal’s award-winning collection titled ‘City Blues’ sheds light on her complex relationship with Delhi, her birth city. Through this collection, ‘Paiwand Studio’ creatively utilises materials such as waste from city billboards, discarded leather, textile waste, velvets and other urban materials, highlighting a sustainable and innovative approach to fashion design.
The product range includes a line of casualwear featuring overlays, edgy pants and comfort-focused pieces, with the collection paying tribute to the city of Delhi. Relaxed embroidered kaftan tunics, clever garment embroidery, woven stripes and surface texturing enhance the visual appeal with the innovative collection skillfully blending waste materials with contemporary styles, meeting the longstanding demand for sustainable and modern fashion.
It has always been ‘Paiwand Studio’s’ core effort of putting an emphasis on reviving craft with waste and raw materials. The collection’s central focus was utilising upcycled hand-crafted textiles, whilst the silhouettes defined a contemporary urban lifestyle.
The collection not only unveiled a strong message against a vicious consumerism circle but offered clothes that provided an alternative to the circularity that has trapped mankind.
Designer Ashita Singhal of ‘Paiwand Studio’ shared, “We at Paiwand Studio are super excited to have won ‘NEXA presents The Spotlight’ and to have got an opportunity to present on such a large scale. Bringing upcycling and handcrafts to the forefront of fashion feels like a big win, not only for Paiwand Studio but also for all the people associated with sustainable fashion and conscious practices. We are truly grateful to NEXA, Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI and RBL for supporting a young brand like ours and giving us the freedom to express our vision and work.”
Ashita Singhal was honoured with the seventh edition of the ‘NEXA presents The Spotlight’ award at Lakmē Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI and received a fund of Rs. 8 lakh from NEXA towards the set design and showcase that took place at Jio World Convention Centre, situated in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. |
