In a significant boost to the state’s industrial development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin laid the cornerstone for a new Dean Shoes manufacturing facility in the Ariyalur District’s SIPCOT industrial park, Jayankondam.
The footwear giant Long Yin Investment (Dean Shoes) plans to invest US $ 118 million in the project, which will create jobs for 15,000 people in the industrially underdeveloped district.
According to Industries Minister T R B Rajaa, this investment would further solidify Tamil Nadu’s position as a global centre for the production of non-leather footwear and transform other districts, including Perambalur, Ranipet, and Ariyalur, promoting distributed growth throughout the state.
“More significantly, women hold 90 per cent of these positions, which is a fundamental component of the Dravidian Model,” said the Minister.
“With well-known international brands like Nike, Crocs, New Balance, Adidas, Puma, and many more now produced in Tamil Nadu, we are a major global footwear hub and currently account for over 32 per cent of all footwear manufacturing in India,” Rajaa wrote in a post to the social media site X.
State Ministers, officials, and vice chairmen Otto Yang and Rich Chang participated in the groundbreaking ceremony, which was presided over by the chief minister.
