Nylstar’s commitment to sustainable development continues!
The company has unveiled INVISTA-recycled nylon 6.6 polymer with Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certification.
What’s noteworthy is that despite containing more than 50 per cent recycled content, these Meryl® yarns will still be retaining its world-renowned quality.
INVISTA sources post-industrial nylon 6.6 material from its plant in Kingston (Canada), where fibres for airbags and carpets are produced.
It then converts post-industrial fibre waste to pellet and supplies to Nylstar for spinning –helping some of the global fashion greats deliver eco-friendly apparels to the market.
Here it is important to note that Meryl® yarn technologies were born from Nylstar’s continual commitment to minimise or eliminate the use of water, energy and chemicals while promoting 100 per cent recyclability in apparel production.
Recycled Meryl® yarns also comprise other sustainable traits too like being solvent and silicone-free in addition to including dope-dye colours, zero microplastic pollution and natural stretch without elastane.
Nylstar, as a part of its global strategy to provide circular economy solutions to the textile sector, is now working with retailers to quickly develop collections and processing infrastructure to promote post-consumer recycling of apparels manufactures with Meryl® yarns.
More on the same, Alfonso Cirera, CEO and President, Nylstar, says “Through our Research Center for Advanced Recycled Materials, we are the first to commercialise these recycled materials for use in fine denier yarns for the athleisure market.”
Not surprising considering Nylstar’s constant efforts to work towards sustainable development with its award-winning basic and special Meryl fibres.
Further on this, Mark Delaplane, Vice President of Product Line Strategy at INVISTA, said “Nylstar has the knowledge and technology to convert recycled polymer into specialty yarns. This is an exciting example of a win-win solution and preferred customer relationship that promotes environmental stewardship while delivering high-quality products to the fashion industry.”
Alfonso says “Thanks to our work with INVISTA, we can now offer our brand partners a new way to transition to closed-loop solutions without compromising the performance, hand-feel and durability consumers expect from Meryl® yarns.”
Founded in 1923, Nylstar serves customers across 40 countries.
